Sealants

What are Sealants?

A dental sealant is a protective coating that your dentist can paint onto your teeth to provide long-lasting extra protection from decay. This is an easy in-office procedure that can be completed quickly. Sealants provide a protective layer to prevent the plaque build that leads to enamel erosion and decay.

Why are Sealants needed?

Dental sealants are protective coatings that are beneficial for the health of your teeth. It is a clear invisible layer that prevents cavities from forming in the areas where the sealants are applied, which prevents the need for a filling or a root canal. For children, sealants can be especially beneficial in preventing early treatment of cavities with fillings, root canals and even extractions.

Loved everyone here. Friendly efficient staff, especially Sonya and my Jersey girl up front. Very skilled drs. Explained everything in a way I could understand. One of the best dental practices I've ever been to.

What makes you a good candidate for Sealants?

Sealants are more commonly recommended for younger patients, including children who have all of their permanent teeth, teens, and young adults. Sealants can help young patients avoid tooth decay. Adults who do not have fillings or decay on their back teeth may also be good candidates for sealants. Every patient is different and it is best to consult with your dentist about the possibility of sealants.

What can be expected during the Sealant process?

After sitting comfortably, the teeth that will be receiving sealants will be cleaned and dried. The liquid is then brushed onto the biting surfaces of the back teeth. The material is cured with a specialized curing light that hardens the sealant into place. Once the sealant is cured and it hardens, the sealant will act as a protective barrier and can help in preventing cavities. We will check your sealants at every dental checkup and can reapply them on an as-needed basis.
