Dental extractions involve fully removing a tooth from the mouth. An extraction is performed when a tooth is compromising the health of your teeth. The procedure involves the full and complete removal of one or more teeth in your mouth. In some cases, extractions are necessary because a tooth has become severely decayed, is loose, or has been compromised in some other way. In other cases, an extraction might be needed to prevent a tooth from becoming a problem, as with wisdom teeth.
At our office, we are able to perform a range of different extractions to benefit your oral and dental health. We are able to perform any extraction in a way that is comfortable and convenient for you. Bone preservation is done for future implant placements.
Before an extraction is performed, you will need to come in for an exam. After the x-ray, the tooth is evaluated for nearby anatomical structures, such as nerves or proximity to sinus. After evaluation, a diagnosis is made. Some of the reasons you might need an extractions are signs of severe decay, the tooth is unrestorable, advanced periodontal disease or gum disease, wisdom teeth that are not able to come in properly, or for orthodontic purposes or sometimes baby teeth don't fall out on their own to allow permanent teeth to come in.
Depending on the type of anesthetic used and the reason for an extraction, a thorough health history is required to determine if you are healthy enough to undergo sedation. Extractions are done quickly in-office and patients are provided with comprehensive aftercare instructions.
Loved everyone here. Friendly efficient staff, especially Sonya and my Jersey girl up front. Very skilled drs. Explained everything in a way I could understand. One of the best dental practices I've ever been to.

To determine if you would benefit from a tooth extraction, you will come into our practice for a full exam and consultation with our doctor. X-rays and other types of images may be necessary prior to the procedure being performed. We can talk about sedation and anesthetic choices with you before you go for oral surgery, especially if multiple extractions are needed at the same time.
For routine extractions, the area is numbed for your comfort. Special instruments are used to lift the tooth out of the socket and remove it from the mouth. You will not experience pain; however, you may feel intense pressure. We are going to rock the tooth out of the socket. While sutures may be needed for certain patients, they are not required with every extraction. You will be given extremely important aftercare instructions that will help with the healing process during recovery time. Extractions are done quickly and are less invasive than you might think.
For patients who need sedation, you will be given the medication before the surgery. You will need to have someone drive you home from the appointment because the effects of the medication do not wear off quickly.
If you think you might need to have one or multiple teeth removed, call our office.
